PKIDs reasearches and authors original publications that are designed to 1) provide informational support to families and healthcare providers of children with chronic viral illness, and 2) educate the public in the prevention of infectious diseases and the stigmatization of people with these diseases.

Pediatric Hepatitis Report

It used to be that families who learned their children had hepatitis B or C found little information about how these diseases impact children and what the latest medical treatments are in the pediatric population. PKIDs produced the Pediatric Hepatitis Report, with partial funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to fill that void.

A sampling of sections in the report includes:

• How parents can find or create support groups.
• How to talk to children about their hepatitis infection.
• What clinical trials are and how parents can evaluate them.
• What civil rights protections are available to children with viral hepatitis.
• What the latest treatment options are for each type of viral hepatitis.

Infectious Disease Workshop

PKIDs has created the Infectious Disease Workshop, a train-the-trainer program for anyone wanting to learn and teach more about infectious diseases. The workshop covers infectious diseases, disease prevention, infectious diseases and sports, reducing stigma, civil rights for infected people, and disaster preparedness. Each unit offers informative background material for instructors plus fun and engaging activities for participants ages 2 to adult. The materials were developed in cooperation with leading physicians and public health educators to create an accurate and user-friendly program that is free to the public.

Someone You Know Has Hepatitis B and Someone You Know Has Hepatitis C

These brochures were designed so that families could give them to others to help them understand chronic viral hepatitis and thereby reduce the stigma borne by infected persons.
