HANDWASHING VIDEO CONTEST

Global Handwashing Day will be here on October 15th. We're sponsoring a video contest! (cheers in the background)

Video Submissions: Upload your video to YouTube and follow the submission guidelines below by 15 September. Videos should be short in length, like that of a commercial or PSA. The winner will get a $500USD gift certificate.

UPDATE: As of August 20, 2009, our YouTube group is not functioning. We have revised the instructions for submission of videos. Please read this page completely and follow the directions for submission as outlined below. We apologize for any inconvenience; please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Goals

We want the video to remind people that handwashing is an important method of disease prevention (get rid of germs before they get you), and with luck, the memory of the video will stick with them next time they start to prepare food, leave the bathroom, finish playing outside, or do whatever it is they do to get germs on their hands. We want to stop disease transmission so people of all ages stay healthy.

Whatever your vision is of soap and water and clean hands, that's what we want to see. Be funny, be serious, be esoteric, but most of all, be creative and original!

CONTEST RULES

Create a 15, 30, or 60 second video that will inform and motivate people to practice handwashing for disease transmission prevention. Make your video fun, smart, and entertaining.

To Enter

Produced video needs to be uploaded to YouTube. You will need a YouTube account to do this if you do not already have one. After uploading your video to YouTube, please email the following to pkids@pkids.org:

• Your first and last name
• Your mailing address
• Phone number(s) you can be reached at
• Best email address to reach you at
• The URL of your video
• The title of your video

Certifications

Upon submission of your video entry, you will be certifying that:

• you are the creator of the submission;
• you have read and agree to the contest rules as stated on this webpage;
• you are at least 14 years of age and, if under 18 years of age, have parent/guardian permission to enter this contest;
• you have the permission to show any people or private property in your video;
• neither you nor any member of your immediate family is PKIDs employee, contractor or grantee, and
• that you grant PKIDs a royalty-free license to copy, distribute, modify, display, and perform publicly and otherwise use, and authorize others to use, your video for any educational purpose throughout the world and in any media.

Any contest winners will be contacted and mailed a form to sign. This form will also require you to verify that you have permission of any people or private property shown in your video.

Video requirements

1. The Video must be either 15, 30, or 60 seconds in length.
2. You may enter multiple versions (15, 30 and 60 second) of your PSA.
3. The Video cannot have been submitted previously in a promotion or contest of any kind or exhibited or displayed publicly through any means previously.
4. The Video must not contain material that violates or infringes another’s rights, including but not limited to privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights, or that constitutes copyright or license infringement.
5. The Video must not contain brand names or trademarks;
6. The Video must not contain material that is inappropriate, indecent, obscene, hateful, defamatory, slanderous or libelous;
7. The Video must not contain material that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age; and
8. The Video must not contain material that is unlawful, in violation of or contrary to the laws or regulations in any state where Video is created.

Screening

Entries that do not meet the above requirements will be considered ineligible.

Winner Selection

Following the deadline for submissions, an PKIDs panel will judge the entries for accuracy of the information in each submission and its adherence to the requirements shown above. NOTE: Entries must be exactly 15, 30 or 60 seconds to pass this screening process.

Winners will be required to provide 2 versions of their video – one with PKIDs’ URL (www.pkids.org) and one without.

Judging Criterion

• Message and appropriateness to theme (50%)
• Creativity (30%)
• Entertainment value (20%)

If the judges don’t like the eligible entries, no prize money will be awarded and the contest will continue to run.

The Prizes

• One grand prize of $500 cash for winning video
  

Eligibility

• Must be US resident, resident of Puerto Rico, or resident of a U.S. territory.
• Must be 14 years of age or older
• Cannot be, nor have an immediate family member as, a PKIDsemployee, contractor, or grantee.

Eligibility of contest winners will be verified. If winner does not meet eligibility requirements, a new winner will be chosen and verified.
